Meet the Artists - George Denholm Armour

George Denholm Armour (1864-1949) was one of the finest horse painters of the first half of the 20thC. Born in Lanarkshire he became a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and was a friend of Joseph Crawhall and Robert Alexander with whom he spent time in Tangiers, hunting and buying cheap horses.He was a very keen hunting man and had a great eye for a horse, reproducing many fine portraits of them as well as illustrating for newspapers and books as well as a few prints. He ended his days in the Beaufort country.
