John Cyril Harrison

1898-1985

J.C.Harrison studied art at the Slade school of Art which helped him to develop the early talent he had shown. He lived most of his life in Norfolk where he was a keen supporter of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, support that was continued by his son Robin.

He was published by Royle and Son in the seventies and subsequently by the Tryon Gallery who promoted his work and held many London exhibitions for him. He also illustrated a number of books on birds.

His ability to capture the movement of birds in flight is particularly good. He painted mainly in watercolour although an occasional oil painting was produced. He had a distinctive and attractive palette which, while using a lot of blue,ri was never cold.
